What do you want to eat for dinner when you feel cold? I often eat hot pot meal for dinner for example seafood hot pot, curry hot pot, Mizutaki. Motsu-nabe and more.
First I am going to share about Japanese hot pot dish.

Japanese hotpot dish

I usually use this kind of earthenware pot. Is it a same style hot pot in your country? I put the pot on the dining table when we have hot pot dish. I put some meat or vegetables or fish on the pot with some seasoning. I take hot pot meal while heating it on the gas cooktop.

There are many kind of hot pot dish in Japan. I’m gonna share some of them here.

Chanko-Nabe ちゃんこ鍋

Mainly sumo wrestlers eat chanko nabe. It’s one of the Japanese hot pot meal. I’ve heard they eat chanko-nabe everyday but there are so many kind of tastes of chanko-nabe. Usually you boil chicken born on the pot to cook a soup, and you put some chicken and onion into the soup with soy sauce, sugar and sake. After that you take in some vegetables and deep fried tofu. This is one of a Japanese hot pot dish called Chanko-nabe.

Mizutaki 水炊き

Mizutaki is famous in Fukuoka prefecture. You don’t need to season on this hot pot dish, you boil chicken born or chicken for a long time about 1 hour from cold water to cook soup. The soup is cloudy in order to long time boiling. The ingredients are chicken meatball, cabbage, Shiitake mushroom, crown daisy welsh onion and tofu. When you eat them, you marinate them in a ponzu vinegar seasoning which is made from vinegar and juice from a bitter citrus fruits.

Motsu nabe もつ鍋

Motsu nabe is a giblet cook in a hot pot. I love it so much it’s so oily though. You cook soup stock from bonito or kelp, season them with soy sauce or miso and put pretreatment giblet, many cabbage and Chinese chives and garlic to put out a smell. You boil them well.

The most fantastic thing is still remain! After eating hot pot dish, you can put some streamed rice or noodle in the soup!! It’s yummmy!! When I mix some steamed rice in the soup, I often put some egg and cheese too. You have to eat too much thought!

Anyway I cooked Odenおでん tonight for dinner. Oden is one of a hot pot dish too in Japan but it’s so easy to cook.

You cook soup stock and put some ingredients in the soup as you like and boil them! Just it! The knack is to boil them for a long time. I usually put Japanese white radish, carrot, boiled egg, konjak, beef muscle and Satsumaageさつまあげ it’s kind of fried fish ball, you can look at them in the picture that some brown them. When I eat Oden, I season them with Japanese mustard.

If they are left over, you can put them in the lunch box tomorrow and it will be changed for tomorrow dinner. You can put some noodle in Oden, it’s just delicious Udon! Oden will be Udon soup!! Fantastic!

I will use hot pot many times to cook hot dinner in this winter.
