What comes to mind when you think about Japanese foods? Sushi? Ramen?
I show you one of the typical Japanese food, a bowl of rice with tempura and Soba noodle here.
A bowl of rice
Do you have a bowl of rice meal in your country? There are so many kinds of bowl rice in Japan, for example, a beef bowl which is a bowl of rice topped with cooked beef and onions, or an asoorted raw seafood bowl which is namely a bowl with several kinds of seafood on rice.
By the way, there are many beef bowl restaurants in Japan and they have several kinds of beef bowl like a cheese beef bowl, a Japanese green onion and beef bowl. You also choose some toppings like raw egg. In addition, the beef bowls are very reasonable here!!
Tempura
Tempura is one of the famous Japanese foods. It is seafood, vegetables and chicken that is covered in batter and deep-fried. It’s very crispy but the inside is juicy. Of course freshly cooked tempura hit the spot.
One of the pempura, there is a mixed vegetables tempura. It’s some kinds of thin vegetables have been covered in batter all at once and deep-fried with putting together. It’s bigger and thicker than the normal tempura like shrimp and you cen enjoy several different textures from some different vegetables in it.

This is a Japanese food! Mixed tempura is top on rice bowl.
It’s hot steamed rice in a bowl and a freshly cooked tempura is top on rice, the tempura is mixed with small shrimp and some vegetables. You pour some souce on it by yourself when you eat it.
A Japanese condiment goes well with tempura. The picture’s tempura is seasoned with Japanese seven spice chilli pepper. It’s usually used for Japanese noodle like Udon or Soba.
Soba
Have you ever tried Japanese Soba? It’s a noodle made out of buckwheat flour. The noodle is thiner than Ramen and Udon, usually the soba soup is seanoned with soy sauce and looks brown. Compared to Ramen, there is not so much ingredients in a Soba bowl. It can be eaten hot or cool.
Only Soba is not enough for you so that there are usually combo meal at the Soba restaurants in Japan.
Combo meal
Why don’t you try both Soba and a bowl of rice with tempura on top when you visit Japan all the way? You can usually choose smaller size when you order combo dish. And tempura goes great with Soba. Soba tastes light, on the contrary, tempura is deep-fried and a little heavy so that it’s just right that you eat both of them!
Yomoda-Soba よもだそば
If you can not make up your mind where you go to eat Soba and tempura bowl, how about Yomoda-soba? It’s a soba restaurant and there are several shops in Tokyo and Nagoya. They use organic ingredients. Unbelievably they also provide authentic Indian curry.
Summary
These days the consumption of Soba in Japan has been decreasing. However Soba is healthy and it’s provided both hot or cool! It’s very attractive food, isn’t it?
