Furikake ふりかけ

As you know Japanese people often eat rice but you need to prepare some side-dish goes well with rice. However it is a little bit hard to cook some side-dish for every breakfast every morning so we have Furikake ふりかけ in Japan. Furikake is a dry powder seasoning to sprinkle on top of a bowl of rice and there are so many flavors for example scramble egg, bonito flakes, grilled salted salmon, Japanese picked plum, dry seaweed and more.

Japanese breakfast

People say that a typical Japanese breakfast consists of a bowl of rice, a cup of miso soup, a baked fish and some side-dishes. However we often eat the toasted bread with coffee and yogurt or cereal for breakfast. In my case I often prepare rice with topping Furikake and a cup of leftover miso soup from dinner last night.

Furikake of Demon slayer

I’m going to share Furikake of Demon Slayer today. You can find many flavors of Furikake and many different kinds of characters of Furikake at the supermarket. Recently Demon Slayer have been becoming very popular in Japan then a lot of products of Demon Slayer are sold.
This Furikake has 4 flavors that is scramble egg, grilled salted salmon, bonito flakes and some small fish. This Furikake has 20 small bags in it that consists 6 bags of egg flavor, 6 bags of grilled salmon flavor, 4 bags of bonito flakes and 4 bags of small fish taste. Each quantity of one bag is good for a bowl of rice. As you find out from the tastes, Furikake is rich in calcium and good for your health.

Each bag is printed the character of Demon Slayer and one scene of cartoon to double sided.　Anyway can you see Sabito 錆兎 printed in the bag of bonito flakes flavor of the picture? He is a character of Demon Slayer and the character appears at just beginning of the cartoon however the voice actor of Sabito is very famous, he is Yuki Kaji 梶裕貴. He did the voice of Meliodas from The seven deadly sin and Eren Yeager form Attack on Titan and more and more.

Appendix

Kids like to sprinkle Furikake on rice because kids tend to eat just side-dishes without rice so that some rice will be left over then Furikake’s turn here.
As I mentioned before there are many kinds of furikake at the supermarket. How do kids choose the one Furikake from so many seasoning powders? They choice their favorite character’s one or freebie in it. This Furikake contains one glitter seal and there are 20 kinds in all. Nobody knows which kind’s of sticker will be in it.

Summary

Japanese kids like Furikake and we often use it for lunch box お弁当 that is very good for carrying around with lunch box. In addition Furikake is good for breakfast that you don’t need to cook any side-dishes and good for your health as well thanks to the ingredients.

Of course there are many Furikake for adults for example Wasabi flavor, Sukiyaki flavor, baked Japanese green onion taste and mixed with seaweed, sesame seeds and scrambled egg and more.

It will be fun to search for some Furikake at the supermarket in Japan when you visit here.
