O Bento

I made a bento for my husband today.
He went to his office once or twice a month by train and monorail recently because of the COVID-19 world. He usually work at home from 8:30am from 11:30 pm. Do you believe it? Even he is in the house, we can not have dinner together because of his hard work but it is not only for my husband but also for almost Japanese workers…
This is real Japan.

Anyway I would like to share you the Japanese Bento for a husband. It’s not like for the kids. It’s a little big and a lot of leftovers from last dinner! However you know he doesn’t take in so much vegetables at the out side, I mean that when he goes to the restaurant for lunch or dinner, he tends to order what he wants to eat. My husband doesn’t take care about his health so much so that I would like to cook healthy and his agreeable lunch for him.

A Bento is good for a health. You can bring what you want to eat for lunch and it’s free!!
Here I need to explain about Bento. I was talking about Bento I thought all you know a Bento. Bent is a Japanese lunch box that you usually put some steamed rice and other fillings and fruits. I also bring a tumbler of Japanese tea because it’s free if you bring them from the house! A bento is full of good things! What do you put in your lunch box?

By the way I wrote” O Bento” for the title of this blog today. Did you notice it? Many foreign people know Bento I thought, however many Japanese people don’t call it “Bento.” We call it “Obento”. We put “O” in front of the Japanese word, if the word is valuable or to make it politely. For example “work”, “Letter”, “Toillet” and so on like “Oshigoto”, “Otegami” and “Otoire”. It’s difficult to explain about it in English though.

OK I share Obento that I made for my husband today.
I take in some rice with a rice seasoning containing seaweed, fish, salt and more. We call it “Furikake”. Furikake is a rice seasoning but it means to sprinkle on something.
You can buy a huge amount of Furikake in a Japanese supermarket, it tastes like egg, salmon, Sukiyaki and more and more! I bought “Akuma Meshi”. It means a demon meal. It’s like a Kimetsu oops.. like Demon Slayer…
It was soo yummy! It contains some small fried balls tastes green perilla, green dried seaweed and a dipping sauce for tempura. It’s so much crispy and the mix flavour is perfect between rice and oil of tempura. Furikake is good for a quickly meal like Obento or breakfast.

I cooked a omelet and baked a sausage for Obanto because it’s so easy to cook in the morning. And I put some steamed vegetables with say sauce that was one of the dinner last night. Of cause the steamed rice is a remains of last dinner. I have so much time to cook Obento in the morning. That’s why I cook the healthy meal for dinner!!

What do you bring for you lunch? I am interested in the lunch box worldwide.
I’m glad that you teach me your lunch and lunch box!

See you next time!
