The convenience store sweets are so in fashion in Japan these days. As I mentioned before in this blog, we had to stay home because of the COVID19 world and we couldn’t be easy to go out with our friends to restaurant so that our diversion was poor recently. Therefore the convenience store confections are very familiar now. You need some fun to stay home and can go to the convenience store without reserve even under these circumstances. In addition the sweets are not expensive compare to the pastry’s one and the convenience store sweets are extremely delicious as much as cake shop’s.

Shiro means white, Mochi means rice cake and Taiyaki is a Japanese traditional confection. First I’m gonna mention about Taiyaki. This is kind of a pancake shaped fish and some sweet red bean paste is in it. The fillings are changed to a custard cream, a coarse sweet red bean jam, a cheese cream and more. Usually you eat Taiyaki while it’s hot so that the skin is crusty but the fillings are kind of sticky and quite hot.
Why does this shape fish especially red seabream?
Because a red seabream was so expensive in old Japan as much as general citizen could not buy it so that the founder made a fish shaped pancake instead of a real red seabream that many people could buy that pancakes. In addition a red seabream is symbol of good fortune in Japan.

Anyway the sweets I share you today is “Shiromochi Taiyaki”. The skin is so soft and sticky like a extremely soft rice cake or Daifuku and the filling is a cream tastes custard added some vanilla beans. To tell the truth, I feel it’s a kind of rice cake confection like a cream Daifuku of course it’s very delicious!! Only shape is Taiyaki.

But look at this picture!! It looks so yummy!! I love rice cake and sticky sweets! If you take it, the confection comes with your hand and your mouth like a very soft rice cake! The cream is not quite sweet! It goes really well with a cup of coffee!

There are so many delicious convenience stores sweets now in Japan. When you come to Japan, you should try them!

See you next time!
