The beautiful summer is coming soon here. What would you like to do in Summer? You can often see many people have an barbeque in each garden during summer in Japan with family or friends. My family also loves to have a BBQ and we grill many dishes. What kind of food do you grill for barbeque?
I’m going to share a Japanese style barbeque today.
Grilled skewered chicken やきとり
We stick many foods like chicken, vegetables, rice cakes even Japanese traditional confectionaries like Dango. The barbecue style chicken skewers called Yakitori やきとり in Japanese. It’s like a Kebab or satay in southeast Asia but Japanese style chicken skewers are seasoned with salt and peeper or Japanese style sauce so that it tastes salty.
First I prepare some skewered foods before BBQ.
The wrapped perillas with thinly sliced perk.
The rolled camembert cheese with the bacons.
The wrapped rice cakes with bacons.
The rolled tomatoes with bacons.
I skewer them by types and also cut some vegetables on a sticks.
When you grill them, you season with some salt and pepper, it’s easy. The chicken skewers are usually just made from cut chickens on a sticks. You can buy frozen sticked chickens at the supermarket though.
As you know, these skewered foods go well with beer!
Seafood barbeque
You can also grill raw seafood for Sashimi. It’s extremely fresh so we ate whole shell and all shrimps seasoned with just salt. It was amazing and delicious!
We grill oyster too. It’s difficult to take it from the shell because it’s so hot and oyster meats are glued to the shells. However if you take it at the BBQ, you can taste so much yummy!! Oyster is said that it’s milk of the sea here.
We like octopus that is cooked for Takoyaki たこやき, Sushi and also Salads. I tried to grill some octopus and you don’t need any seasoning because it’s already salty and you can eat all of them. It was chewy and delicious for me!!
To finish off the BBQ
In Japan, people often have ramen after drinking alcohol. As same as ramen for finishing off the night with ramen, we also grill some rice balls for finishing off the BBQ. I seasoned them with soy sauce, it’s crispy, salty and delicious!!
Summary
As I mentioned above, we grill many ingredients on the barbeque like meat, seafood, and rice.
Japanese people also enjoy BBQ during summer. When you visit here in Summer, you can try Japanese style barbeque!
